My dog vomited after Trifexis heartworm medicine. Is she safe now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Female | spayed | 55 lbs

Friday my vet was out of sentinel, our regular heart worm preventative so I bought trifexis instead. 1hr and 5 min later my dog vomited. She has been fine ever since but I have read horror stories ever since doing research. If this was Friday at 4:00 she should be out of danger, right? She just vomited the one time and had ate, drank, and had normal energy ever since. I will never give her this poison again though!

If Grace has been entirely normal since the episode of vomiting I don't think you have anything to worry about. Of course, continue to monitor for any signs of ill health like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or inappetance. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and best wishes to you and Grace!
