Should I pop a red bump on my dog's ear, or just leave it alone?

My dog has a red hairless bump that appeared on the back of his ear today. It wasn't there yesterday when I gave him a bath. Should I try and pop it like a pimple or leave it?

I would leave it. If you pop it, it can introduce infection into the area and make it worse. I would clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap, and then monitor it. If it gets larger and/or does go away in a couple of days, then I would have Choc seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

It could be an aural haematoma. If this is the case, the blister will contain blood and it is likely secondary to shaking his head or/and scratching of the ear. I would recommend to have him checked over by your vet, he might have an ear infection that requires treatment.

Hi there. What you are noting on Olivia's ear is likely just a little pimple under the skin. Dogs can form these, especially in areas like an ear flap where the skin in thin. Usually these are nothing to worry about, unless they begin to grow or irritate the dog. I would just monitor for now and see what happens. It may even just go away. I hope that helps. My dog has a red bump on his ear that just appeared yesterday and I'm very concerned what could it be?

If it truly was not there yesterday, this is most likely to be a bug bite (tick, mosquito, spider, bee, other), dog/cat bite (if he was wrestling with any other friends lately), or some other random trauma (crashing through a spiky bush or catching it on something). If you're unsure how long it's been there, add cyst, benign or malignant tumor, and others to the list of possibilities. I'd slap some neosporin on there twice daily and watch it. If no improvement in 3 days (or if worsening at any time), it's time to see the vet. This goes for any accompanying facial swelling, vomiting, or diarrhea, as these could be signs of serious allergic reaction. Best of luck to you and Lucky!

From the pictures, it looks like the little bump below Daniel's ear could be a benign tumor such as wart. Of course, there is always a chance it could be a malignant tumor, so it's a good idea to have it checked out by a vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the bump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss if any treatment is needed. I would take him into the vet sometime this week. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I was checking my dogs ears and noticed a bump. I check her ears weekly and I didn’t notice it last week. She’s not acting strange either.
Poor girl. This almost looks like an insect bite. Since it isn't bothering her, you can opt to just monitor this area for the next 1-2 weeks to see if it spontaneously regresses (resolves on its own). In the meantime you can clean the area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water daily to keep it from getting infected. If the swelling does not reduce in size or causes any irritation at any point, then it should be looked at by your veterinarian. I hope that Kona's swelling resolves soon! Best wishes and take care.

Hi, I have an 8-week puppy whose ear was accidentally pierced by a (very slim!) jump ring. Didn't really bleed, but there is a bump on his ear. I put triple ointment on it, since he can't reach his ear. Anything else I should do?
Monitor for redness, discharge, active bleeding or odor. A minor wound may heal on its own. Keep the area clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent scratching or rubbing if necessary. If it doesn't appear to be healing, see your veterinarian for an exam.

My dog has developed a small pimple like sore on her ear. Should I be worried or need to take her to the vet for direct care?
I am sorry to hear about your concern for Saki. It is a bit difficult to really see the lesion in these photos. If it looks like a whitehead pimple (has a whitish colored center) you can try cleaning it with an antibacterial soap such as Hibiclens (available at most drug stores) and applying a topical antibiotic ointment twice daily. If it is not resolving within a week or if it is increasing in size a vet visit is recommended. You can also try warm compresses for 15 minutes a few times a day if it looks like it might come to a head and drain. If it is more of a solid mass then it could be a small tumor. We can have benign (non harmful) tumors of the skin, but with any potential tumor it is safest to have your vet examine the area.

This looks like a benign adenoma, which is just a benign type of mass. Just watch it for now. If it is growing or bothering Pancho, then I would have your vet look at it. If it grows or changes, your vet will need to perform some diagnostic testing so that some of the cells in this mass can be evaluated under a microscope. These results will help to determine if it needs to be removed. I hope this helps!

Poor Arya. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.
