Why is my old Dachshund losing hair and has raw skin patches?

my min daschund has lost abot 1/2 his hair off one side of belly in last 2 yrs. just liitle bit other side. Has lost some over time on hind legs. Never scratches..Never seemed to bother him. 3 to 4 areas on neck & chest area has crept up in last 2 months that when i finally noticed them were raw patches with hair off. One showed up on leg right above paw now with hair off and had 1 little piece left barely hanging on which was a black crust like piece attaches with a few more hairs. Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | unneutered | 16 years and 8 months old | 16 lbs

At his age I would consider an endocrine problem such as Cushings disease or s low thyroid. These can cause hair loss and skin infections. Your vet can do a skin scraping to check for parasites and lab work to check for the endocrine problems. If there are raw spots now you can apply some cortisone cream until you can get him treated
