Poor Sassy! She could have injured herself causing the sore, or she could be very itchy leading her to bite in that area thus creating the sore. I would gently clean the sore warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Ouch! That does look sore. At this point I would likely call that moist dermatitis which is a skin infection that needs antibiotics. Certainty a bite or sting can start it off. Also, they have a tail gland about 1/3 of the way down the tail that can become infected. It is hard to tell from the picture where on the tail this is. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime if she will let you out a warm water and Epsom salt compress on it that may improve her comfort. Based on the location (it appears to be just to the side and just below the anus), an anal gland abscess may have ruptured. I doubt it’s an insect bite, but I can’t rule that out completely. It could also be another type of mass such as a tumor or a foreign body (such as a grass seed) that’s burrowed into the skin and caused an abscess. Regardless, your instincts are correct; this likely needs to be treated with antibiotics. Put an E -collar (cone of shame) on him and make an appointment with your vet ASAP. Hope that’s helpful! I would get an Ecollar to put on Catchy to prevent him from biting and licking at the wound. You can get one from the pet store or at your vet's clinic. If he hasn't been seen for this sore, I would get it checked out by the vet as well. The sore could be caused by trauma, or it could be a hot spot. Hot spots are very itchy, which would explain why he keeps biting and licking at it, and can be caused by allergies (environment, food, or insect), or underlying skin allergies, among other causes. Catchy may need treatment for the cause of the sore in order for it to heal probably. I would get the Ecollar for him for the weekend, and then take him into the vet either toady (if the vet is open during normal business hours), or first thing Monday.

It appears jack has a sore on his tail, but without an exam it's impossible to know what is causing it. You can gently scrub it with warm water and mild soap. If it is very weepy, has a bad odor or is very painful Kack should see his vet. Otherwise keep the area clean and prevent him from licking or chewing it and it may heal on its own. If not he may have an infection that should be addressed by a vet visit.

It sounds like she has a hot spot on her hip. She could be chewing/licking on that area because of allergies, a problem with her anal glands, fleas, etc. She should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat the problem. Your vet can check her anal glands and express them, if needed. Your vet can also inspect her for evidence of fleas and/or allergies. An antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or a corticosteroid may be needed to help treat her problem and your vet can prescribe. Make sure to use a monthly flea prevention, like NexGard, Frontline, Revolution, or Advantage to prevent fleas and ticks.

I've found a bump that appeared over night on my dogs tail. She has chewed at it. It's red and it has a little bit of blood on it. It's about the size of a quarter. It was not there earlier today.
While it is nearly impossible to say what the original cause of this irritation was, Molly now has a full-fledged lick dermatitis lesion on her tail. The best things you can do are the following: -Clip the area surrounding the lesion so now hair is touching the affected part -Scrub the area with antiseptic like chlorhexidine or dilute betadine -Apply a triple antibiotic ointment and a topical steroid ointment -Put an e collar on her to prevent further mutilation of the area -Treat for fleas / ticks if she is not already on something for this, as this the most common cause for lesions on the hind end and tail If you believe there is truly a lump beneath that infected area, you should have it looked by your veterinarian once the area has healed up so that appropriate diagnostics can be made if necessary. Hello, & thank you for using Boop by Petco. It looks like chocolate has a bit of a hotspot developed there, probably from some sort of allergy. If she is not on a good flea preventative, then start her on the best one you can afford. You can also treat the area with a little cortisone ointment, rubbing just a dab onto the skin 1-2 times daily. If the area seems to be getting worse, please have your veterinarian examine the skin as soon as possible to make sure the area is not infected or something else is developing. Take care.

My dog was running through the house and there was a screw slightly sticking out of the wall that must have caught her. She is now bleeding around the anus/base of her tail.
Poor Scarlet. If the wound is mild (the bleeding is stopping on its won, there is no muscle or deep tissue exposure, etc), you can apply pressure to stop the bleeding and clean the wound with saline rinse and apply triple antibiotic ointment. An E-collar or "cone" can prevent licking/biting and further trauma as the wound heals. However, if the bleeding does not stop on it's own, Scarlet appears to be in pain, or the wound is very deep, Scarlet should be seen by a vet right away, as she may need sutures, antibiotics, and pain medication. I have a 5 month old pug/chi mix puppy. She has sores on her back by her tail. Ive checked het gor fleas and she doesnt have any. Bathed her and it is still bothering her.
Fleas are the most common cause of developing sores by the tail base. Some dogs are allergic to fleas where just a bite or two may cause them to itch excessively. This itching can damage the skin, resulting in a skin infection. Other environmental allergies, food allergies or mange may cause similar signs. At this point, I recommend taking Freya to her vet for further evaluation and treatment. Her vet can discuss options for high quality flea prevention (e.g. Nexgard, Comfortis or K9 Advantix II) and may need to prescribe a course of antibiotics if a bacterial skin infection is present. Until you get to the vet, try putting an e-collar (cone) on Freya to prevent her from causing further damage to her skin. I hope she feels better soon!
