When can my puppy with a contagious wart return to doggie daycare?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 9 months and 11 days old | 78 lbs

Our puppy has a confirmed wart. It's contagious and not allowed back to doggie daycare until it's not contagious. How long does these type of contagious warts last until they are not contagious?

Warts in puppies are typically caused by the papilloma virus, and can regress and go away on their own in about a month or two. Teddy should be kept away from other dogs until the wart has regressed. If it doesn't regress in a month or two, or you can't afford to wait that long to return him to doggy daycare, I would speak to your vet about seeing if it can be removed or if medications can be used to get rid of it. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You would have to wait a few months before reintroducing him to other dogs to ensure that he is not going to develop more as these can be easily transmitted to other dogs. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian in a few months to ensure that no further lesions are seen before you reintroduce him to other dogs. Usually, this happens in younger dogs as their immune system gets stronger and it takes care of this in their system. Good luck and have a good day!
