My older dog is having accidents inside. Should I take him to the vet?

My 13 year old sheltie male has begun to behave differently. He no longer holds his bowel movements until I get home, but rather, goes in my basement. He is only alone for 6 hours at a time, so I believe its for attention. Do you think I need to see a vet? Pet's info: Dog | Shetland Sheepdog | Male | neutered | 12 years and 11 months old | 25 lbs

Many times when an older dog starts to have urinary or fecal accidents there is usually a health issue going on. Sometimes this behavior is pain related. Sometimes it's related to a dementia like condition called cognitive dysfunction. It's definitely a good idea to take Ricky to see the veterinarian so they can determine what might be the cause.
