My dog's ears are back when I get home. Is he happy or stressed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 months and 9 days old | 26 lbs

I beleive dog ears speak volumes of feelings by his ear movements . Whenever I come back home from work ( 8-9 hours later ) my 3.5 year old puppy (German Shepherd ) runs and jumps towards me with an extreme excitement and his ears are pressed backwards jumps on my lap and head leaned on me with his eyes closed . What does that feeling mean ? Stress of meeting his owner or excitement or something else? Thanks

That is happy excitement with his ears like that, it's like he's smiling and happy you're home. l love that he leans his head on you with his eyes closed. Such devotion! Bongo is certainly a very special companion. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Bongo.
