My dog's ears are back when I get home. Is he happy or stressed?

Question

I beleive dog ears speak volumes of feelings by his ear movements . Whenever I come back home from work ( 8-9 hours later ) my 3.5 year old puppy (German Shepherd ) runs and jumps towards me with an extreme excitement and his ears are pressed backwards jumps on my lap and head leaned on me with his eyes closed . What does that feeling mean ? Stress of meeting his owner or excitement or something else? Thanks. That is happy excitement with his ears like that, it's like he's smiling and happy you're home. l love that he leans his head on you with his eyes closed. Such devotion!
