Why does my house-trained dog have bad-smelling, runny diarrhea?

Hello my dog has diarrhoea which smells quite bad and brown in colour. He has had 1 solid poo but the rest has been quite runny and he can't hold it in he is house trained but I've been cleaning up poo all day

Poor Chester! He could have eaten something rotten, could have intestinal worms, a GI illness, or a foreign body causing his diarrhea. Make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, giving him one if he is not. I can also give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I would also let him out more often. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hello, my Italian greyhound has been up frequently all night to vomit and have diarrhea. He’s normally a very good sleeper and doesn’t do much moving around but tonight he just seems restless. He keeps shifting around as if he can’t get comfortable.
It could just be a tummy bug, so you could try a bland diet of cooked white rice and boiled chicken and letting Chester rest for the day. If he becomes very lethargic, can't keep anything down, or you are very concerned, I would recommend calling your vet. He should definitely go in if the vomiting and diarrhea continue tomorrow (after 24 hours). Common causes of vomiting and diarrhea in a dog include dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others.

If the diarrhea does not resolve or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If he has not had blood testing done in the last year or ever, I would highly recommend having his blood tested to see if there may be a systemic disease / infection that might indicate as to why he is having this diarrhea. My 23 lb mixed breed dog has had diarrhea since last night and today it has become mucousy. Should I consider taking him to the vet? Or should I try maybe rice, pumpkin or anti diarrhea liquid?
