Why is my young Malamute aggressive to dogs and growling at people?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 25 days old

My Alaskan malamute is coming up for a year and in the last 2 months has started growling or winning to warn people not to strike him but he goes to them to get petted witch Is confusing he is also very aggressive to male dogs and can't go to classes as he has not been neutered as he is to young I would just like some advice as I don't want it to get worse and lots of people say nurturing might not help him thank you Shaun

Alaskan malamutes are beautiful dogs!! Based on what you describe, I am worried that Ace is trying to be the dominant leader of your family. Hitting Ace also can make him scared and defensive. I strongly recommend neutering him now to eliminate the testosterone hormone that has some contribution to this behavior, especially around other male dogs. I also strongly recommend finding a trainer that can help you regain control over him in a non-aggressive way. The trainer will give you different training exercises to do with Ace to help him act better. This will be a slow process, but it is important to start soon and learn more about why Ace is acting this way and the steps to curb it. If this behavior escalates, his size can make him a dangerous dog! Good luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
