My puppy has missing fur on its paw, but the skin looks normal. Why?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 7 lbs

I found a pitbull puppy under my house he looks about 7-8weeks he has one spot more like the whole top of his front paw with fur missing. His skin in that area is not red,it doesnt look like a sore. Just looks like normal skin he doesnt mess with it. I was just wondering what could it be.

How lovely of you to take in this stray puppy! It's possible that he injured himself leading to this spot with the fur missing. It may be healing and it will take some time for the fur to grow back. It can take up to a couple of months for it to come back fully. Given that it's not red and it's not bothering him, I wouldn't do anything with it. Have him seen by a vet if it turns red, it starts bothering him (he licks at it a lot), or it doesn't appear the fur is starting to grow back at all.

Hello. This just looks like a bad scrape, but the skin actually looks pretty good. Just watch for any signs of bruising or pain ( he may limp or start licking the area ), but if he seems fine & unbothered by this, then the hair should grow back just fine. Thank you for showing concern and compassion for this little guy. The wound appears to be most likely caused by chronic fleas, bacterial infection (hot spot), or mite infestation. It could have also been caused by an injury or burn - a little difficult to tell with just a photo. Your vet should be able to help you figure it out. In the meantime, try to keep him from scratching the area and keep it as clean as possible.

Poor girl. With so many external skin parasites on her then hair loss due is common to occur. There is no harm in waiting 1-2 weeks to see if the hair starts to grow back on its own. As long as she isn't chewing her paws excessively and seems bothered then it's ok to wait things out for now. Also try an oatmeal based puppy shampoo to hear her skin. When she is at least 6 weeks of age then visit your vet to get her on topical Revolution to protect her from future infestations. Monitor her behavior as well and if she acts ill in the next few days then it's best to get her seen to make sure she didn't pick up a big from the many parasites she had on her. my pugs fur is not growing back has a big spot missing.
It can take many months for hair to regrow. Sometimes bald patches can occur with mites, itching from fleas/allergies/mites/infection, hypothyroidism or other endocrine disorder, alopecia, among a few other things. Since Duke is still a puppy, I would recommend that you have him examined by a vet to see what could be the case. The vet can look for treatable causes of the bald spots. Also, feeding a high quality puppy food and supplementing with Vitamin E and fish oils can support the body and skin to help hair grow.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Alvin regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. You are doing just fine. It looks like she just scraped her pad and the skin above it. It may take up to 3/4 weeks to completely heal. The damaged pad takes the longest to regrow. The skin is not a problem. I would only bandage it a few days and after that keep it unwrapped as long as she isn't licking it. Hope this helps. We have a near 2 yr old pit mix who has reddened areas where there should be fur on one of his paws. Not sure exactly if it's swollen but it most likely is. What can we do at home to help get the areas back to normal. There are no open areas, drain
This can be caused by various reasons such as fleas, mites ,fungal infection, bacterial infection and allergies. the first 4 needs to be ruled out before we start treating for allergies. in order to do that first de-flea Shadow with a high quality flea treatment such as advantage spot on, if it doesn't help - take him to the vet in order to check for/treat the other possibilities. If everything is ruled out, then an allergy treatment can be started. Usually an hypoallergenic food is a good way to start together with anti histamines. if it doesn't help - the best solution is a medication called Apoquel which treats allergies with great success and without side effects.

Penny, my 6 month old great dane, woke up this morning with this bald spot on her back left leg. I'm not sure what it is?
This looks like it’s from and injury that had a scab over it and now the scab has fallen off. I expect this to heal and the fur to grow back in in a week or two. The skin itself looks healthy. A friend of mine had this puppy and left it outside all the time and I ended taken him back from them and now he had this wired wound on his paw
I would have panda examined by a vet. A wound like this could be caused by skin infection, ringworm, mange mites, chronic licking from allergies or pain in the foot, etc. The vet will look closely at his skin and may take a small sample to examine under the microscope. Then they can prescribe an appropriate treatment once the cause is known.

This is most likely a histiocytoma which is benign tumor that will often times regress on it's own. However, I cannot diagnose over the internet so there is no way for me to know this for sure just by looking at a photo.
