My stray cat is falling. Should I treat for ear mites or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Angora | Male | unneutered | 8 lbs

There's a stray old Tomcat that I've been feeding every since he showed up in my backyard around 2 or two and a half years ago well for the last 3 or 4 days I've noticed that he's been falling over just like falling over like when he goes to scratch soon as he lift his leg he just Falls I'm pretty sure it's most likely due to an ear Mite infestation but I was wondering if I should catch him and treat him with the ear Mite medicine or should I not use the medicine in case he has an infection?

How lovely of you to look after this stray cat! It does sound like he needs treatment badly for his symptoms, but it needs to be diagnosed first so he can be treated properly. I would take him into the vet if you can so he can be diagnosed and treated. If you don't want to assume financial responsibility for him, I would take him into the SPCA. They can treat him and find him a home. I hope this helps!
