What contagious virus is killing my 6-week-old foster kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 7 days old | 1.2 lbs

My mom is fostering 6 week old kittens frokm different litters. Two have died in the l ast week. Symptoms were pale gums, lethargy/weakness, inflamed eyes, white poop, dehydration, and then a seizure and death. 4 different vets but none can determine a diagnosis. It must be contagious because they are from different litters so I don't think it is congenial. Vets think it's some kind of virus. Which viruses could do this? Is there any way to save the others? None have been vaccinated, too young

Hello, several viruses such as panleukopenia and FIP can cause this. Parasitic infections such as coccidia and giardia may also cause this. Testing with a parvo test and checking a stool sample may help you rule some of these diseases out. Hope this helps and best of luck!
