My dog barks outside when mom's in the kitchen. How can I stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 21 days old | 40 lbs

My dog barks and whines when my mom goes into kitchen. He just won't stop barking until my mom comes out of the kitchen after she finishes cooking and washes dish. We don't allow him inside home except at nights. So he stands out and barks until mom comes out. What should I do about this?

I recommend that you or your Mom feed him his dinner when she goes into the kitchen to cook. Then he will wait for her to cook and be happy because he knows he will get fed at that time. You can also give him a chew toy or play fetch or tug with him to take his focus off her. Another trick is to fill a Kong toy with peanut butter or cheese whiz so they take a long time licking it out and it will keep him busy instead of barking.
