My dog ate pseudoephedrine (Reactine). What symptoms to watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 17 days old | 30 lbs

My dog ate 60mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. I gave him 2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide but it was old and ineffective. He has no symptoms but it was a slow release Reactine tablet (half of one). He is 30 lbs. Thank you.

This is at the upper limit of a safe dosage for dogs, so he should probably be OK. I wouldn't recommend attempting to induce vomiting for Kado anymore, because it likely won't be effective and may cause more harm than good at this time. I expect Kado will be rather hyperactive tonight, but if he starts to appear disoriented, vomits, or starts having seizures, then he should go to the emergency vet. It's not likely that you'll have to do this, but it's good to just check on her periodically throughout the night. If she's fine by the morning, then there will be no further concerns about toxicity. I hope that helps and all goes well for Kado.
