Can my 2-month-old Corgi puppy hold it overnight in his crate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 2 months old | 7 lbs

We have a 2 month corgi that we just got from a breeder on Sunday and had a question about his bathroom schedule. Normally my fiance takes him out around 9:00 or so before she goes to bed then with my work schedule and waking up at 2 I take him out around 2:20am. He always does go but my question is do we have to wake up in the middle of the night on weekends when I don't have to be up at 2 or is it possible for him to hold it if we take him out around 10pm then again 8am.

Yes, that should be fine if you have Cosmo in a crate at night. If he cries then please take him out so he doesn't go in the crate. In another few weeks he will not have a problem going through the night. Usually puppies are not fully housebroken until they are four months old so be patient. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Cosmo.
