Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 100 lbs

Hi ,have a black lab named Gunner and he is turning 11. The past week he started breathing very heavily and just two days ago i noticed he is practically skin and bones, which doesnt make sense because just a couple of days ago he didnt look like that! He can barely walk and is drink alot of water. Although he is still eating, hes having a hard time doing so and is not eating the amount he was before. I cant bring him in to see a vet now, is there any over the counter medicine i can give him?

Unfortunately, Gunner sounds very sick and there is not an over the counter medicine that you can use. It is very concerning that he has lost significant weight and is breathing very heavy. He could have heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, endocrine disease, cancer, etc. and he really needs to be seen by a vet for a work-up to determine the exact cause. He needs blood-work and an x-ray to diagnose. Please try to get him to a vet as soon as possible.
