My 15-year-old cat hides, won't eat dry food. Is he sick or picky?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14 years and 4 months old | 15 lbs

My cat dominoh just passed away,About 4 years old and became lethargic and stopped eating and stayed in the bathroom. Now my 15 y/o cat is doing the same thing kinda. Hes eating a lot but stays in the bathroom and no longer eats dried food. Hes moving alot more than dominoh when he first got sick and eats way better. Do you think that neo, when dominoh was sick, ate the tuna and thought "why eat dried food when there is tuna?" And now won't eat his dried food or do you think he got sick as well?

If neo is not eating I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for a good exam. Older cats can loose weight secondary to hyperthyroid disease, kidney disease and even infection. It is possible neo is eating tuna over his regular food secondary to good taste. I hope neo feels better soon.
