Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 13 days old | 80 lbs
Hello I think my dog may be pregnant but can't tell. She hasn't gained much weight but she runs a lot and her nipples are starting to get bigger. Also her vagina is dark and swollen. Could you please give me any advice on weather she could be or not.

Harley could be pregnant or she could be experiencing a false pregnancy (showing all the signs of being pregnant without having puppies). But these symptoms could also be due to her first heat. The only way to know for sure is to have her seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms. I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow. I hope this helps!

Enlarged mammary glands and an enlarged vulva can occur during pregnancy but can also occur during a heat cycle. If she is not bearing weight on one of her legs and it seems higher than the other it could be a sign of an injury, or hip dysplasia that has cause luxation of the hip. I would recommend having her examined by your vet - they can certainly help determine whether or not she has an orthopedic issue and depending on how long it has been since the potential breeding they might be able to determine whether or not she is pregnant.

Given that Jewels escaped while she was in heat, it's certainly possible that she could be pregnant. Depending on when she was in heat in November, she could be far enough along in a pregnancy to have x-rays done to confirm she is pregnant and how many puppies she is carrying. It could also be she is having a false pregnancy. I would have her seen by a vet this week. The vet can diagnose if she's pregnant or not. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Mammary enlargement can be caused by pregnancy, false or hormonal pregnancy, exposure to human estrogen creams, masses or cysts, or lymphatic drainage issues, among others. It is a good idea to have Angie examined by a vet. The vet may do an x-ray or ultrasound to determine if she is pregnant.
