My puppy is biting fur, not eating, and has white specks. Is he sick?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 7 months and 19 days old | 28 lbs

Puppy is knawing at fur everywhere white little hairs/works in fur. Won't eat kibble whining lots. Acting crazy?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Hustler. It is definitely concerning when a puppy won't eat. There may be something besides the skin thing going on if this is the case. I would highly recommend having Hustler tested for lice, especially if you are seeing white things on he haircoat. Lice in pets is usually not contagious to people and can cause intense itching and irritation. Lice can be treated with prescription medication from your vet. The vet may also want to run some bloodwork if Hustler is also not eating, since this can't be explained by possible lice but instead an internal illness (i.e. Viral, bacterial infection or upset stomach) may be present. You can try offering a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for now until he is thoroughly examined. I wish you all the best in getting Hustler welL. Take care.
