My rabbit has eye pain. What can I give him before seeing a vet?

What can i give my rabbit for his eye pain, My rabit babby eye is in pain because every time I put a warm wash cloth on it he starts to grind his teeth I put a warm wash cloth on his eye because he has something red on the side of it when I asked last time that is what you told me to do until I can get him to a vet can I give him anything for the pain?

I'm sorry Baby isn't doing well! Unfortunately there is nothing you can give him OTC. Rabbits are very sensitive to medications, and giving him a human one that isn't prescribed by a vet can be fatal. I would keep putting the warm wash cloth on his eye and get him into a vet asap. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Rabbit eye infection- need meds?
Yes! Holiday definitely needs medical care ASAP! I can’t see the eye in the picture but there appears to be raw, likely infected skin cranial to the eyes, possibly draining discharge from an eye infection (hard to see the eye in this picture). Holiday could benefit from sedation, very careful clipping of the crusted fur on his face, cleaning of the raw skin with chlorhexidine, a topical antibiotic /steroid ointment for the skin +/- injectable Baytril, likely ophthalmic antibiotics for the eye and an e-collar to prevent scratching and further injury. Holiday is very cute…best wishes for a quick recovery!

The vet isn’t open until monday, what can i do for my rabbits swollen eye until i can take her in?
Thank you for the picture, and I hope that we can get Sophie feeling better soon! I like your idea of taking her into the vet on Monday when they open, as swollen eyes can be painful, and eye injuries can be serious. Until then, I would recommend keeping the area clean, and trying to keep hair from going into the eye, as it can scratch the cornea (front of the eye). You can also apply an over the counter tear gel (such as GenTeal or Optixcare) 3-4 times daily. Please try to get one of these two brands, and make sure they are just the year gel without any additives in them. This will help to keep the eye lubricated until Monday. Please do not apply any other medications to the eye, and don’t give any human medications to your rabbit, as many of them are harmful to them. If you feel that the eye is worsening tonight or tomorrow, I would recommend trying to find an emergency clinic that see rabbits.

Poor Oreo! Unfortunately there aren't any OTC pain relievers you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to rabbits and can be fatal if given. The ones that are safe should only be used under strict vet supervision, and because I can't see him in person, it's illegal for me to recommend any of them. I would see if you can give your vet a call about his pain and discuss pain medication recommendation. If he does appear very painful, I would take him into an ER vet right away. Look at my rabbits eyes they are red
It is hard for me to appreciate much redness from these photos however it can be very difficult to see subtle changes around the eye in a photo. If your rabbit it squinting his eyes or has any excessive discharge from the eyes or you see a cloudy spot/circle on the surface of his eye, these are all signs he should be seen by the vet as he could have an eye infection or an eye wound. If they just look a little red to you, you can try using a sterile eye wash to rinse the eyes in case they are irritated from some debris and if he is on a bedding of shavings which can be irritating to some pets switch his bedding to a paper-type bedding such as Carefresh.

My rabbit has an eye infection but I don't have the money to take him to the vet. How should I treat him?
Hello. Eye infections can get pretty bad very quickly, & for an animal that really depends on its sight to live, this can be critical. You can try using the over the counter Vetericyn ophthalmic gel, but please try to have Julian seen as soon as possible. He depends on you for this. Take care.

One of my 2 1/2 week old rabbit's eyes are full of gunk. Is there something I can do for it?
You can take a warm damp cloth and hold it over the eye to loosen the discharge, then gently wipe it away. Do this as as often as needed. Please don’t put anything in the eye unless you get an exam with your veterinarian. They will examine the eye and once they have a diagnosis then they can prescribe eye ointment if needed. My rabbit has white discharge coming from one eye. Just in one eye, around eye appears wet with some white gunk. Yesterday, I noticed it was closed mostly and today it just started appearing wet. her cage mate did have a white booger a few days ago,
It is difficult to say what may be going on. When they squint/close they eye, there is usually either an injury to the eye or they have something inside irritating the eye. The squinting is form pain. I really suggest you get her to the vet for an exam. If she was not squinting I would not be as worried just about the eye discharge. If there is an eye injury it needs to be treated quickly and appropriately or there could be serious complications. If you want to try something at home until you get a vet appointment you can use this eye gel/wash in all the rabbits eyes. Hi, I’ve just noticed a small red spot on one of my bunnies upper eye lids, her eye isn’t weeping and she seems fine in herself eating and drinking etc, I was just wondering if I should bring her in this week or monitor it incase it’s nothing too ser
It looks like she may have a blocked tear duct or small infection in her tear gland. You could try putting a warm compress over the eye a few times a day and see if that helps reduce the swelling. If the swelling becomes worse or he starts pawing at her eye because of discomfort I would take her in the be checked out.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Bunnies can commonly get upper respiratory tract infections that manifest as runny eyes, nose, and sneezing. If he is also having difficulty breathing, I would also worry about pneumonia. I would encourage your friend to take their bunny to the vet, who can check for infection and prescribe the right medications to treat him. Sometimes eye problems can be related to dental issues as well, so I would make sure the vet takes a good look at his teeth. I hope this helps, and that bunny starts feeling better soon!

Collect some dry grass outside. Unfortunately rabbits can get digestive problems, sometimes they also can have hair balls which cause problems. Without a hands-on exam it is not possible to recommend a medication. Do not give any antibiotics to your rabbit or any other human medicine. Oral antibiotics are likely to kill the bacteria a rabbit needs for digestion and she will die. Try to find some hay, dry grass. Maybe there is a veterinarian in the next town who can help you.
