My dog yelps when I touch his ear base. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 5 lbs

When I touch my dogs ear where it's connected to his head he yells. I've checked his ear and his teeth but nothing seems to be wrong with either one of them.

I'm sorry Draco is hurting! A dog's ear canal is very deep, so it is very possible that he may have an infection or even an object in the canal and you wouldn't be able to see it without an otoscope. If it is still tender tomorrow I would recommend an examination by your veterinarian so see what can be done to make him more comfortable. Thanks for using Pet Coach!
