Why does my dog bark and pull aggressively at other dogs on walks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 16 lbs

I adopted a border terrier mix about a year ago. He does not do well around other dogs. When he hears one he whines. When he sees one on a walk he barks and pulls on the leash like he is telling me "let me at him", then he turns around and starts whining and looking at me like save me. We have a great trainer that has helped with this but he still shows aggression when seeing (new dogs especially) on a walk.

That's great that you are working with a trainer. Keep that up. This may be part of his personality that may not change, but keep trying and exposing him and working with him. Google in your area and veterinary behavioral specialist to work with if it doesn't improve.
