If he continues to drink excessively then you should have him examined by a vet for blood-work and a urinalysis. He could have an infection, kidney disease, liver disase, diabetes, Cushing's disease, etc. High temperatures could make him drink a little more, especially if he is panting a lot, but if it seems excessive then he should be evaluated by a vet to determine if there is a problem that needs to be treated.

This may just be related to the heat. If a pet starts drinking more water than usual, it can be an indication of a problem...but it can also be behavioral. If the increased drinking g is accompanied by weight loss, increase or decrease in appetite, exvesicles urination or urinary accidents or noticeable weight loss or weight gain...then a veterinary exam is needed. If your pet seems otherwise normal, continue to monitor him for problems and see if the drinking resolves when the weather cools off.
