What's the best way to introduce two kittens of different ages?

I have 2 kittens. 1 female 3-4 weeks old. 1 male 2 - 3 months old. The male has been with me 3 weeks, the female just four days. Neither is spayed/neutered. They're currently in separate rooms and have only met with me holding one of them. Is it safe for them to meet and what is the best approach? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach this morning! I would start them out by introducing them both separately behind a closed door and having them eat on each side of the door. Do this several times. This way, they can associate the smells of each other with something great- meal time! After that has been done, I would introduce them in a enclosed safe area where they can be watched and monitored. Associate the introduction with a meal or play time.
