That depends on the severity of the injury. Given I can't see it or know how it's specifically injured, my recommendation is to take Ring into a vet immediately. The vet is the best person to treat his injured ear. I hope this helps!

Poor Kitty! It sounds like he may have gotten into a fight with another cat or some other animal - this is fairly common for cats who roam outdoors. It's always best to have any wound checked by a vet since he may need antibiotics to treat any infection that remains. But if he is acting normal today, eating and drinking and wanting to play, and the swelling seems to be going down, it's possible that it may heal on its own. If you opt not to take him to the vet right now, I would recommend using a soft washcloth to keep the wound clean and monitor closely for the next few days to make sure that it heals.

my male cat got into some fights it is not fixed, the ear looks pretty bad, but we don't have enought money to take him to the vet what should i do at home to help?
Simba's ear does look really bad, and unfortunately this is not something that can be treated with home remedies. He has to see a vet now. I'd see if you can borrow money from family and friends to afford the vet, and see if the vet will allow you to make payment plans. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear Ringo has a wound on his neck. Based on your picture, it does look like he might have a skin infection of some kind, even possibly from a ruptured abscess. Does he go outside? I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to have area clipped, cleaned, and assessed to determine what may be going on, and what treatment (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, or possible surgical repair) may be needed to resolve it. If he goes outside and the wound may have come from an unknown animal, I would also recommend his rabies vaccine be boostered as well. Good luck!

My dog bit my cats ear, it cut her ear into two pieces last night. She had another small bite at the bottom of the ear as well. I’ve cleaned it and put ointment on it. Should I take her in?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Boots. I do recommend that she sees a veterinarian today. The ear wound needs to be thoroughly cleaned and and examined. She may need antibiotics or even surgery to help it heal. In the meantime, do not allow her to paw at it. Place an E-collar on her if needed to prevent any further self trauma. This is a medical emergency, and your cat has to see a vet immediately. She needs veterinary attention if she is severely injured. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Kitty! There really isn't an over the counter medication that you can use and the cat really needs to be seen by a vet for treatment. The wound should be cleaned and debrided so that it can heal properly. He will also need an antibiotic to treat infection.

This needs absolutely to be seen by your veterinarian. Allister may have an allergic reaction or an otitis causing such a persistent itch. The underlying cause must be recognized and treated appropriately. Antibiotics has to be given as the wound looks infected. Oh dear, this is a sizable wound! If the wound was initially caused by a fight with another cat, I am concerned that it may be quite infected from the other cat's nails or teeth. You can start by putting an e-collar (cone) on your cat to prevent him from scratching at the wound, causing further skin damage. Also you can try cleaning the wound with a dilute betadine solution, but be sure to rinse and dry the wound thoroughly. However, you are most likely going to need to take your cat to the vet for a course of oral antibiotics to treat any existing infection. I hope that all goes well!

My cat has lost part of his ear, I’m not sure how. It has stopped bleeding and I’m not sure how long it has been like this for ( I just got back from holiday). What can I do ? ( I can’t get him into the vets until at least tomorrow).
As long as it is not actively bleeding and he is not in distress or showing signs of severe infection (weight loss, smell from wound, poor appetite), tomorrow should be ok. I would not wash the wound until you can have it assessed by a vet as ear wounds are notorious for bleeding and being difficult to stop so I would not attempt to dislodge any clot which has formed.

Hi my cat Tiger has been itching and now has a hole behind his ear I was wondering what can I do to help him from getting it infected or making it bleed
Tiger needs to see the veterinarian. It is likely already infected judging by the hair loss and redness in the area. You should protect it from further scratching by having him wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. That is the best way to make sure he does not scratch at it which will make it worse. It’s possible he has an infection, an abscess or had a fly larva living in his skin. Best to get it seen today if at all possible.
