Is my new kitten's large poop and swollen anus a sign of worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

I am concerned with my new kitten. We got him yesterday and he's pooped once and it was rather large for a kitten. I have attatched a photo of what his anus looks like. Please help.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. While his anus does appear a bit swollen, it is not alarming. Jasper probably needs to be dewormed, as this is a very common problem in young cats & kittens. Once dewormed, the swelling & bowel movements should normalize. Take care.
