My Corgi hurt his back swimming; weak leg, can't poop. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 45 lbs

My Corgi went swimming yesterday and hurt his back which makes his back leg weak. His appetite is down, attitude is good, still wagging his tail but has a hard time getting up and going out. He hasn't pooped in a few days - it would be hard since his leg can't really support him. I put an ice pack on the sensitive area and gave him a benedryl tonight. Can you prescribe an anti inflammatory?

Sorry, without having examined Mac we cannot prescribe medication. Given your description of Mac, I highly recommend you take him to a veterinarian. He seems to have rather severe nerve damage and is likely in a great deal of pain. The vet will be able to accurately diagnose the condition and prescribe the best treatment based on the findings. Please try to get Mac to a vet within the next 24 hours, because he has potential to get much worse without treatment.
