My puppy got a partial vaccine dose. Should she be re-vaccinated?

My 13 week old puppy only got 1/2 of her 3rd 5 way vaccine. Should she be re-vaccinated with a full does or 1/2 a dose or not at all?

I am unsure about the actual information you provided. I am assuming when you went to give her the vaccine half leaked out or was left on the table. I would recommend repeating the vaccine to be on the safe side. Puppies should be vaccinated until they are 16 weeks of age. Hope that helps

    I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking. So I’ll offer guidance for two scenarios. 1) If you think the vaccine was fake, not handled correctly (refrigerated, etc), not given properly, etc. then yes, go get a vaccine as soon as possible from another source. If you believe the vaccine given was OK, but aren’t happy with the seller or veterinary people, then I’d recommend another vaccine from a reputable place in 3 weeks. And then a final vaccine 3 weeks after that. (Here in the States, we do a vaccine every 3-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age or older. Recommendations in your area may be different.) Given the risk of an 8-week-old pup being insufficiently vaccinated, if you feel she got half the dose or less, I would recommend you repeat the dose so you can be sure she is vaccinated. I have a puppy that was given 5in1 vaccination at 6 weeks. He received next set at 9 and 12 weeks. After reading about over vaccinating pets I'm debating about going in for his 16 week shots. What do I need to do?
The first set of vaccinations at 6 weeks only works if there are no maternal antibodies left in the puppy. Since this varies, there is a possibility that there were some left and destroyed the vaccine. The reason we give it is that the puppy would be protected in case there were no maternal antibodies left. That said it is much much safer to assume that maybe the first set did not work and vaccinate your dog at 16 weeks again. This then is guaranteed protection against distemper, parvo, infectious hepatitis, etc. So I strongly suggest you finish the core vaccinations at 16 weeks.

It is very important that puppy vaccine are given every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. The vaccines must be boostered to work properly. If you took her on 11/8- I am assuming you meant 2016 Rosie should start the vaccine series over again because the gap is to large for proper protection. At this age she will need 1 set of vaccines and another in 3-4 weeks and should be fully vaccinated. However the united kingdom might do things a little differently than the United states. hope that helps

I gave my 3 month old puppy her first puppy shot but I don't think it all went in what should I do?
If you don't think all of the vaccine went it, she will have to have another one in a week. I would recommend very strongly you take Lucy into the vet to have her vaccines done. The vet will be sure to get all of it in, plus you know for sure the vaccines are stored correctly at a vet's office. I have many colleagues who have seen cases of parvo and distemper in dogs who were vaccinated at home. Places that sell OTC vaccines often store them inappropriately, rendering them ineffective. In addition, by law, puppies need to be vaccinated for rabies by four months of age, which can only be done by a vet. You would need to take her for that anyway, so get the vaccines done there as well. Your puppy's health is too important to risk. I hope this helps.

A half of a vaccine is not protective or enough to help her. She does need another but it is safe to wait a week then redo the entire vaccine like normal than administer another half dose that may not be affective given the time frame. It is commonly for smaller dogs to be lethargy after vaccines and if this persist for more than 24 hours then she will need to be seen by your vet.

Hi there. Vaccinations are based on the puppy's age, not how many vaccines they've had previously - so it doesn't really matter whether your vet is "counting" the first ones or not. If it's been more than three weeks since her most recent vaccination, she would be due for a booster now. If she's about three months old, she will need a total of 1-2 additional boosters to finish out her series, since we want the last vaccine to be given at 16 weeks or older.

I recently got a dog and she’s now 5 months old, but the people that I got her from gave her at home shots. Or so they say. Would it harm her for me to take her to a vet and get her puppy shots all over again if they did actually give them to her? I
It's a good idea to have the vet give the core vaccines if the vaccine history is unknown. There are plenty of things that can go wrong with the handling and administration of vaccines, so it's best to have it done by a professional; and it won't be harmful to have it done again. Hello, and thanks for your question on Boop by Petco. It’s great that you’re being conscientious of the risk of parvovirus! Parvo can stay in the environment for years, so it’s definitely warranted to be careful. The recommended schedule for the distemper/parvo vaccine is to give at 8, 12, and 16 weeks, and that’s typically what the vaccine is labeled for. Your vet is right that your pups may not have been ready to respond to the vaccine - but you didn’t do any harm. Essentially, the worst thing it can do is nothing, as their bodies won’t be ready to generate the immune response we want from the vaccine. I recommend repeating the vaccine 3 weeks after the previous dose, and continue every 3-4 weeks until the last puppy booster is given at or beyond 16 weeks of age. Hope this helps!

When I bought my pup, the guy says the pup has been shot but he is not quiet sure. Is it okay to have hime vaccinated for anti rabies again? Just in case my pup has been vaccinated already and I got him vaccinated again, does it have harmful effects
It would be safer to vaccinate again than to risk bot vaccinating, especially when he is so young as it is unlikely any course would be complete at this stage. The original vet should be able to confirm what if any vaccinate had been given if you can obtain contact details. As a general rule, vets would normally issue a written record when vaccinating pups so the new owner can follow on with recommended course, no book often indicates lack of complete vaccine schedule!

No, vaccinations are quite safe to give in close proximity to each other even if you are giving them early. This is done quite often on dogs that we have no vaccination history of and they need them.
