Why does my dog have a pea-sized red spot that scabs on his neck?

My dog has a bloody red spot on his neck that scabes up sometimes it's about the size of a pea. What could this be?

Many things can cause a small wound like this. If it comes and goes it could be a growth that occasionally becomes irritated and / or infected. Of course trauma could be the cause as well. Warm water compresses can be helpful to keep it clean, but if it doesn't resolve completely it should be evaluated for an underlying problem. I hope it heals quickly! Thanks for using Pet Coach!

    This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Little foot regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
