My dog had diarrhea, now no poop for 30 hours. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 10 years and 8 months old | 6 lbs

My 11 year old Chihuahua had diarrhea for days off and on with blood mucus in it. I took her to the vet and she did a complete exam and saw an imbalance of bacteria. She is on an antibiotic, probiotic and boiled chicken diet but has not pooped now for 30 hours. Should I be concerned. She eats well, no fever and is very active.

I am very sorry to hear that Lelani has been so unwell. It sounds as though she is on a great treatment Plan. It can be normal for some constipation to follow a gastrointestinal upset. I would continue to monitor her at home for a few hours. If by the end of the day she still hasn't had a bowel movement, or if she seems in pain or lethargic I Would take her back into the veterinarian. The concern is for a foegein body obstruction. But because she seems happy and active it is less likely.
