Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 7 days old | 2 lbs
Hi. I don't know much about dogs, since Im first time puppy owner. Is it true that I should add a little sugar to the water of my 2mth old Maltese? I would never do such until speaking to a vet. In the meantime thought I can ask here. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! A lot of breeders cause panic in owners that purchase their small or toy breed puppies over the concern for hypoglycemia (or low blood sugar). If Lexi is eating well then she doesn't need sugar added to her water. I recommend feeding small and toy breed puppies multiple small meals through out the day until they are 4 months old/ After 4 months you can just feed 3 times per day. I find the biggest cause of low blood sugar in these puppies are intestinal parasites, specifically coccidia. I recommend taking a stool sample to your Vet for testing. And keeping a tube of Nutri-cal around is better than adding sugar to the water in my opinion. I hope this helps! https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/tomlyn-nutri-cal-puppy-dietary-supplement
