Why is my cockatiel sick? Eyes closed, squinting, sitting in corner.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

I think my pet cockatiel is sick or something made him sick. He has his eyes closed most of the time and squints, he sits in the corner of the cage, he doesn't want to fly to whistle, his beak and the feathers in the bottom of his beak changed in color. What's wrong with him?

Thank you for using PetCoach. I'm so sorry Tino Is sick. What you're describing is just general symptoms of a bird that doesn't feel well. They are non-specific signs, that could be due to a variety of illnesses. I would recommend a veterinary visit to see what maybe going on. Birds are very good at hiding their illness since they are prey species, so at the point you have noticed that he is feeling unwell he may actually be very sick. If you do not know of an avian veterinarian and this website may help you find one. Www.aav.org Keep him in a warm draft free location and try to tempt his appetite with treats her favorite foods in the meantime. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/sick-pet-birds-nursing-care https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/sick-pet-birds-recognizing-a-sick-bird Best of luck and thank you for using PetCoach.

He doesn't appear ill or injured, however birds are quite adept at concealing illness or injury to prevent predation. The best way to find out would be to have him physically examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet.
