Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 8 months old | 44 lbs

My dog who is 8 has had a growth growing under her belly. We went to a vet but she couldn't tell us what it is. She went straight to it needs removal and going to cost $600 and we won't know what it is unless we pay another $300. My worry is its very hard for us to afford it atm. have you any idea what it may be? I really want to know before spending that much money... thank you Ps. She has been on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory for 3 days

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell what this is without removing it. And, I agree that it should be removed, because this has a cancerous appearance and could get much worse and/or spread. The histopathology (identification) is very important for determining the potential it has for being cancerous, which may indicate further treatment. Further treatment often involves more tests, chemotherapy or other cancer therapies. If this is not something that you would pursue, then the histopathology may not be worth it. I hope that helps and Lady gets better soon.
