My dog has a yellow, flaky, raised spot on his snout. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 10 lbs

My 3 year old chihuahua/dachshund mix had a place raise on his snout yesterday out of nowhere. It's light yellow in color, kind of flaky looking, and raised. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I have no idea what it is. He has bad anxiety so, if I can get an answer here about it rather than take him in, I'd prefer it. I'm always willing to take him in though.

Wally is adorable! It is difficult to tell from pictures, but Wally may have a bacterial, yeast or fungal infection. I would recommend having your vet examine him. They can do some simple skin tests to determine what is going on and decide on an appropriate treatment. I would not recommend cleaning or medicating the area until your vet examines Wally, so it doesn't affect their testing. I hope that was helpful!
