Can I safely treat my pregnant cat for fleas before kittens arrive?

Hi my cat is pregnant, day 63 tomorrow (18th of September) anyway I've just seen fleas poo on her then saw a flea running over her stomach. Is there anything safe I can treat her before the kittens are born.?

Great question! First I would give Sammy Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give pregnant cats. Then I would follow up with Revolution. This is a spot on treatment that is also safe to use in pregnant cats. You can get both from your vet. Be sure to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum all the furniture and carpet surfaces. I hope this helps!

No, this is not safe to use on your dog. Revolution is a spot on flea treatment, and it is approved and safe for use in pregnant dogs. You can get this from your vet's office. I'd recommend using Capstar as well. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is also safe to give pregnant dogs. Give her the Capstar to kill the fleas, and follow up with the Revolution. You will have to disinfect the environment as well. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Just keep her out of any room where you use Indorex or a flea bomb until the room is completely dried. I hope this helps!

So Bella is around 5 weeks pregnant and I noticed and took two fleas off of her yesterday. I was wondering if I could used this flea treatment which I had been using but stopped right before she got pregnant. It says it's safe for kittens 8 weeks and
If it's not specifically labeled for use in pregnant cats, it's not safe to use on Bella. I recommend using Revolution or Advantage, those are proven to be safe for pregnant cats. I hope this helps!

Great question! I don't recommend using a flea collar, they aren't very effective and often cause skin problems. You can give her Capstar, which is a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes. It is safe to give nursing mothers. Then follow up with Revolution. It's a spot on treatment that is also safe to use on nursing mothers. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house such as Indorex.. Make sure Miss Kitty and her kittens are away from where you sprayed the flea spray until it is completely dry. As for the kittens, they are too young for flea treatment and do not put anything on them. You can gently bathe them in warm water and Dawn dish soap, using a flea comb to get all the fleas out of their fur. Be sure to dry them completely so they don't get cold.

Hi, my cat is pregnant and has fleas. Can I use flea treatment on her right now?
To my knowledge, there is only one safe (supposedly) flea / tick treatment for pregnant / lactating cats. That is Frontline. I would still read the label carefully and see if the study they did revealed any weird birth defects in large numbers, but it is definitely supposed to be safe.

I currently am in care of a pregnant cat, I noticed one of her ears had brown stuff in them and then noticed 2 fleas. I picked them off and have not found any more since but I was wondering if I can use veterinary formula flea and tick shampoo on her
Veterinary formula flea and tick shampoo cannot be used on pregnant cats, so do not use it. I would use either Advantage or Revolution, both are safe to use on pregnant cats. The home spray is fine, but do not allow Sophie in the room where you use it until it's completely dry. Have her seen by a vet to diagnose what is causing the debris in her ears, which could be due to yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. I hope this helps!

Can I bathe my pregnant cat? Or can I put Advantage on her back of the neck? How do I keep her away from fleas?
Yes you can apply Advantage to your pregnant cat. Giving a bath is very stressful and won’t control the fleas as well as Advantage. Please vacuum the house daily and use a flea treatment on all of the other animals in the household otherwise you may still have a flea problem. If the kittens get fleas I would use a flea comb dipped in soapy dishwasher to remove them from the kittens, and kill them in the bowl of soapy water. I have a stray pregnant cat living in my house for the past 4months.she is living in our house like any other domestic pet,only she does his potty outside.she has fleas and never been vaccinated.bcz its not safe to vaccine and use flea control things
You need to treat the puppy for fleas. You can use certain flea treatments on pregnant cats such as Revolution or Advantage flea treatment. I would use one of those on Snowbell. You will need to disinfect the environment as well to get rid of all the fleas. Make sure the puppy gets his vaccines, and once Snowbell has her kittens and they are weaned, vaccinate her. Okay my cat gave birth to kittens last night and this morning I checked them n they had fleas!But my cat had a flea collar. How can I get rid of them?
Unfortunately, flea collars aren't that effective at getting rid of fleas. The mother cat will need a spot on treatment, such as Frontline or Revolution, both of which are safe to use on nursing mothers. Remove the flea collar before giving her the spot on treatment. You can also give her Capstar at the same time, it's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes. You will have to wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. Do NOT use the spot on flea treatment on the kittens, it is not safe to use on them. You can gently bathe them in warm water, towel them dry, and then use a flea comb to comb out the fleas. A spot on treatment cannot be used on them until they are at least six weeks of age.

Is Hertz ultraguard topical flea and tick prevention for cats and kittens safe for a pregnant cat? I am not positive that she is pregnant. There is a good possibility she is. I need to know if this product is safe.
It is not recommended to use Hartz® UltraGuard® brand flea and tick products on pregnant cats (or dogs). You can, however, use a product called Frontline spray on your pregnant cat. Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly (in your case: Frontline spray) 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.

I would not worry about severe reactions as selamectin (Revolution) is an avermectin and can be used after Sentry and Advantage multi without a problem. Avermectins are a different class of acaricide and therefore there will be no overdose when used with the others. Both your kitties should be ok and there should be no adverse reaction re the kittens either.
