My new puppy has diarrhea and vomiting. Is it normal for a new dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1lb

My new puppy (only had for almost 10 hrs) is having stomach issues. Her stomach is gurggling and she has thrown up once with dirheara. But it is only when I take her out. She is happy but her stomach will not stop. I am feeding her the same food her previous owner was. Is she just having digestive problems or?????

I'm sorry Bella isn't doing well at the moment! It could be that she is suffering from a GI illness or may have eaten something that has upset her stomach. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for a couple of hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, you see blood in the diarrhea, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Good luck, I hope this helps!
