My dog has a bleeding ear bump and weird odor. Is it serious?

Hi there, recently I noticed a little bump in violets ear. It had a scab on it but she must have scratched it off as it is just bleeding a tiny bit. As if when you pop a pimple and it bleeds just a drop. I do have another dog in the house and they tend to play rough sometimes so I'm wondering if that could be a possibility as well or if it is something serious I need to worry about. The ears look fine to me they just have a bit of a weird odour to them. Thanks!

Poor Violet! I am concerned by your description that she has a weird odor to her eyes. That suggests an ear infection to me, and it could be in the deeper parts of her ear, leaving the outer ear normal in appearance and making you think they are fine. That would also cause her to scratch her ear vigorously, causing the bump. I do recommend having Violet seen by a vet on Monday. The vet can examine her ear and determine if she does have an ear infection. Should she have one, the vet can treat her for it. I hope this helps!

I would recommend having Lily evaluated by the vet if this mass is getting bigger. any abnormal growth that is changing in size and shape should be assessed to make sure that it is not malignant. Poor Arya. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.

Hi my dog has a red boil looking lump in her ear but not inside the canal and it has just started bleeding slightly. She is scratching the other ear a lot and it’s all red. Does she need a vet?
I would recommend that you have this little mass checked out by a vet, but I would not consider it an emergency. You could wait until Monday if your vet is not open. If Nala is scratching and causing it to bleed, you may need to have her wear an e-collar to prevent further damage. I wouldn't keep applying aloe vera to this bump on Vixi's ear, it won't make it any better. This bump could be a cyst or a benign tumor, and if it keeps getting bigger, I would have her seen by a vet sooner than two weeks to have it examined and diagnosed. If it is a cyst, it will need to be drained sterilely, and it may need to be removed surgically to keep it from recurring.

Yes, I would recommend Houdini is checked by a vet as soon as possible; many tumors can develop on the ears and early diagnosis maximises the chance of a complete cure. Biopsy or removal and submission to the lab for accurate diagnosis is recommended in any growing or hairless mass, especially with the color change you describe.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. This appears to be a small wart like growth, or small tumor. These can be quite common on older dogs. I would clean the area with peroxide & apply some topical antibiotic tonight, & have Sadie seen by your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. It may be nothing at all, & only requires observation, or it might be best to remove the growth to prevent bleeding episodes, but it does not look too serious. Hopefully, all will be well soon. By it's look only it's not possible to tell what type of tumor it is. this lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Sunny to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

I don't think it is anything urgent, you can see your regular vet tomorrow to sort this out. Your Olivia will probably need an antibiotic cream or ointment. If it is a small abscess, your vet may want to pop it to let the puss out.

This sounds like an abscess or hot spot. You can trim the surrounding fur to let the air in and stop the fur from getting stuck in the discharge. Clean the area with medicated shampoo or antibacterial soap, rinse it off, dry it and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. If Rosie is scratching the area please use a restraint collar if needed. Once you clean up the area if it looks like a tumor then take Rosie in for an exam and they can do a needle aspirate and look at cells under the microscope to see if it's an infection or cancer.
