My cat's stool has dry red, but she's normal. Is it blood or food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 12 lbs

Is this blood in my cat's stool? Or did she just probably get into something? The red stuff is completely dry and my cat is acting normally.

I could be wrong but it doesn't look like blood to me, it's too bright almost pink to be fresh blood. she could have eaten something that had this color and did not get digested. check the stools again today or tomorrow to make sure it was a one time thing.

It is worth keeping an eye on future BM's. Blood at the end can be a sign of straining. If you notice any diarrhea or continued blood then she needs to be seen by a vet to see if there is an infection or inflammation. If you notice vomiting or no appetite, then I would worry and get her seen.

That is very concerning, and since the blood is bright red I'd be worried that there is mucosal linings (what you think are worms) that are being shed from the lower GI tract leading to the bleeding due to inflammation or an illness. I would seek out care from your vet (or an ER clinic if he seems in distress currently) right away and bring the sample with you.

Yes, I would be worried in that it's never normal to have blood in the feces. It could be caused by intestinal parasites, trauma to the GI tract, a foreign body, GI polyps, a foreign body, or GI tumors. I would have kitty checked out by a vet first thing in the morning for this.
