How do I get my 5-year-old obese dog to lose weight? Food & exercise.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 25 lbs

I got a dog today. She's a min pin chihuahua mix. She's approximately 5 years old. She is spayed. But what my issue is, she's obese! How can I get her to lose weight? What food and portions do you recommend? Is it a good idea for her to lose weight at this age? She seems perfectly healthy but she gets out of breath coming up our stairs and even jumping on the couch! I can't take her to the dog park and let her run because she dosent like other dogs but I can walk her around my area.

They make good weight management foods either over the counter or prescription. A good prescription on is Hills metabolic. Her portions should be about 3/4 a cup a day to start... a little less if she gets treats. You can start slow with exercise with just making her go up and down the stairs an extra time or a short walk around the house until she gets better and gradually increase it
