My dog's dexamethasone for edema ran out. Can prednisone help?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 9 years and 1 month old | 80 lbs

Our dog was taking dexamethaszone for edema and we ran out our vet said we can not get refill until monday. Will prednisone work similarly?

They are both in the same class of drugs and do the same thing but dexamethasone is a lot stronger than prednisone. It depends on why he is on it and how long you have been on it. Typically with either of these drugs, the goal is to ween off them by gradually decreasing the dose
