Dog tummy rash: Can I treat it at home or should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 25 lbs

Fred has developed a rash on his Tummy. He is alert, playing and eating and only occasionally scratches. I noticed it yesterday and he had played with a toad earlier in the week. Is there anything I can do to help the rash or should I pop him to the vet?

Hi there. I don't think this has anything to do with the toad, however, some toads are toxic if the dog licks or eats them so I would try to keep him from doing that in the future! What I would do is try a topical spray for a week or so. If no improvement I would then take him to the vet. I recommend this one. Lightly spray the affected area(s) 2-3 times per day until the rash is gone. https://www.chewy.com/douxo-calm-micro-emulsion-spray-dogs/dp/110755 Hope this helps. Best wishes to you and Fred :)
