Dog throwing up foamy yellow bile with blood after allergy meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 14.33 lbs

My 1 yr old dog had an allergy caused by demodex and she was throwing up undigested food. Her vet prescribed immunol, 2 other meds for her allergy, and advocate spot on. She was getting better within the first week of her meds, no vomiting and less scratching and licking of her paws. But since 3 days ago, she's been throwing up foamy yellow bile and just yesterday, I found small spots of blood in her vomit. (She's still eating her food and still very active.)

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I highly recommend that you have Tack evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes blood in the vomit can be seen with things like gastrointestinal ulceration which can occur secondary to medications, especially prednisone which is a commonly used medication for allergies. If this seems like a possibility, they would start her on medications for an ulcer. Good luck! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
