My Yorkie ate a calcium D3 supplement. Is 800IU D3 safe for him?

my 9lb yorkie have have ingested a calcium d3 supplement. I just need to know what to do for him. It was 600mg calcium 800IU d3

Hi and thanks for your post. Vitamin D3 is the more concerning item over the calcium. Vitamin D3 ingestion would cause a problem at 0.5-3mg/kg of body weight. He is 4kg and 800 IU is 0.02mg therefore 0.02/4kg=0.005mg/kg dosage which is below the 0.5mg/kg cut off and is likely not enough to cause a problem. I would watch him today and tomorrow and take him into your veterinarian if any signs of illness are noted: lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, drinking a lot of water, not urinating or urinating more frequently. However if you are still concerned and it has been less than 2 hours since ingestion, you may take her into an emergency veterinarian to induce emissions (vomiting) and have her assessed.
