My Collie has nose bumps, could it be lupus? When should I recheck?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rough Collie | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 70 lbs

My dog recently developed what seems to be bumps and lesions on his nose, the vet I saw just gave him antibiotics and sent him home, since he is a collie could this be lupus? And should he be reexamined?

It is possible that lupus could be the cause, but this is actually quite rare even though Collies do have a hereditary predisposition to a few types of lupus and other autoimmune diseases. Collies are also predisposed to superficial bacterial folliculitis, which is more common and may be what your vet is treating for. I would give the antibiotics some time to work. If you don't see improvement in a week, then it would be good to bring him back for a recheck. I hope that helps and George gets better soon.
