Why is my female rabbit aggressive and biting at 7 months old?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 8 months and 12 days old | 5 lbs

My female rabbit is about 7 months old and she is very aggressive towards me. She hates being held and when I do try and pick her up she kicks me to the point where I have bleeding cuts everywhere. I got her when she was a baby so there's no reason for her to be afraid of me.. when I come near her she runs away.. I try to bond with her but doesn't seem to work. She also bites me when I try to pet her. She used to be very sweet when I first got her. Is there anything I can do to make her like me?

Sorry you are having this issue. She is most likely being territorial as she is becoming sexually active. Females can get very territorial and aggressive when they reach this stage. My honest recommendation would be to have her spayed - that will diminish any sexual drive and that may help decrease territorial behavior. I suggest you read these articles. They may help you try to correct this behavior. I still recommend spaying her..... http://rabbit.org/faq-aggression/ http://www.wikihow.com/Socialize-Your-Rabbit Hope this helps. Best wishes!
