My Yorkie has a mole-like growth behind her ear. Is it a tick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4.6 lbs

I was petting my yorkie tonight and noticed what looks like a mole behind her ear. I immediately thought it was a tick! But there are no legs and it's fully embedded. I pulled at with tweezers but nothing. I feel terrible because I was hurting her pulling at what I think is a mole. Is it possible for a tick to go that deep and not move at all with the tugging?

I am sorry to hear about Peanut! Normally with a tick we will still be able to see legs attached to the body, even if the tick has embedded it's head into the skin. I suspect you were tugging on a skin tag or growth. I would recommend putting some neosporin or topical antibiotic ointment on the area in case the skin was traumatized and making an appointment for your vet to check the area.
