My cat slipped in the tub and is limping. Is she seriously hurt?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 15 lbs

I was playing with my cat, and i placed her in a tub with barely any water in it and she slipped and struggled to get out. didnt help in fear of hurting. She limped and cried for a few minutes, and then after half hour she was fine and walking fine. I picked hr up several hours later and she cried in pain and is limping again. Will take to vet ASAP. Any suggestions as to what may have happened? i feel terrible and that it is my fault she is hurt. I am afraid she will be taken from me by vet

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Squeaks probably strained a muscle, tendon, or ligament, but a fracture of some kind cannot be ruled-out without a proper exam and radiographs. Since you are already on your way to have her examined by a veterinarian, you are taking the correct measures to ensure her well-being. Without knowing the specific circumstances, it is difficult to give advice on what to do for baths, if that is what you were trying to do. Be up front and honest with the vet, and ask them if they have any pointers for handling the situation in the future. I hope this helps and that Squeaks gets better soon!
