My dog has a weird spot on his nose getting worse. Vet visit?

Hey, this morning my dog got something besides his nose and its been getting worst since I was wondering what I have to do Or do I bring him to the vet??

I would have that checked out by a vet. This lesion is concerning for certain fungal and parasitic lesions that can get much worse if left too long. I also worry about skin cancer in white-faced dogs, so it will be good to have this ruled-out as a potential cause. No need to panic, just get it checked out in a day or two. For now, you can keep the wound clean by blotting it with a cloth soaked in warm water. Do this twice a day and avoid scrubbing.

I would not be concerned with this at the moment, it is likely due to a small scratch. Continue to monitor for any spreading however which may indicate an underlying cause such as fungal infection or generalized skin disease

The lesion you are describing and visible in the pictures could include many different diseases, for example: a trauma, a localized bacterial infection, a fungal infection and, even if very unlikely, a neoplastic skin disease (i.e. nasal lymphoma). Discoid lupus erythematous cannot be excluded at this and the presentation might be compatible. Each of these diseases has a different treatment .Generally speaking, I would suggest to keep the area clean with some saline (if cupid dirts his nose while sniffing in the garden) and avoid scratching and licking from other dogs. I wouldn't use any cream and, as you already anticipated, I would suggest a check up with your local veterinarian. Hopefully is just a trauma and will resolve quickly but, the final diagnosis is reached by taking a biopsy of skin from the affected area. A biopsy can be taken under general anesthetic/sedation, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle (FNA) or through a skin scrape can be collected. Please post ag

Hello, what is this? Does this require any extra medical attention? Or is it just dry skin that can be treated with a lotion?
This looks like it might be a bit more serious than dry skin - it looks like there is an ulcer on the nose and I can see a spot where there is loss of pigment. This could be from a nasal fungal infection, a bacterial infection of the nose, or an autoimmune disease. I’d recommend having Murdoc examined by your vet to determine what might be going on.

My dog got a red spot pop up on her nose and I thought it was just a scrape and going away but it is starting to get bigger. Do I need to take her in? What could it be?
Ouch! Due to how inflamed that looks I would definitely schedule a vet visit ASAP. Sudden growths/irritations like that can be due to a number of things including bacterial infections, tumors, irritation from digging/rubbing at the spot too much, allergies, etc so it's good to see your vet. They'll likely want to take a sample of the area to determine what is going on and how best to treat it. In the meantime, it's a good idea to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Nova to keep her from rubbing at the spot, as well as keep the area clean and dry. If the area is rapidly growing in size, taking note of the size, color, shape changes, etc can help your vet better determine what is going on. If you are noticing any other symptoms (sneezing, fever, loss of appetite, etc) these are important to let your vet know as well.

I know that dog noses are able to goback and forth between wet and dry, but my dog has this patch on top of his nose, it doesn't seem to bother him I was just concerned if it's anything serious or worthy of a vet visit.

A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid rubbing/scratching if any. Hello, I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a photo but one is not attached (which is ok). Its hard to say with out a photo. Typically lesions described like this are abrasions, ringworm (which humans can get) or an area where they rubbed the nose. Certainly, protect it from any further rubbing by having him wear and elizabethan collar. Monitor the area daily for any signs that it's getting worse. Otherwise you may watch it for a week. If it gets worse, or doesn't get better, have him examined by the veterinarian (although certainly you could get this done earlier if you like). Most healthy dogs should be able to heal minor wounds unassisted. I hope this helps.

Ouch! Any new or suddenly growing growth like this should be checked out by your vet in person ASAP. Allergies, infections, skin irritation from rubbing it on things, and some growths and tumors can all cause spots like that on the nose, and can also cause rapid changes and discoloration like this. Until you can get to your vet, I would place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Amber and keep the spot clean and dry to help reduce any further irritation. It is also a good idea to monitor the size and shape of it and how rapidly it is changing as this can help your vet figure out what may be going on. Your vet will likely take a full history as well as a potential sample of the spot to see what cells are present and provide treatment as needed.

If the spot has changed in size over time it wouldn't hurt to have your vet take another look at it, especially if the change was very rapid over the past few days or weeks. Your vet may recommend taking a sample of the spot for testing to help determine what it may be so it can be treated as needed. Growths like this can be caused by any number of things including rubbing the spot often on surfaces, cysts, blisters, allergies, etc, so having it examined if it is changing is best.

My dog (10 months) has a rough spot on the skin on the top of his snout. He rubs it sometimes with his paws and has had it for a couple of weeks. It almost feels like a scab. Is this something to worry about?
Hi. If Enzo has had this spot a few weeks and it's not getting better, it's probably a good idea to get him checkout by the vet. If it isn't bother him, you can give it a few more days, but young dogs can possibly develop mange or ringworm. Or if he's rubbing it, it may just be a sore that can't heal but your vet can help with some Medications to speed up the healing process.
