My 6-week puppy won't eat hard food after deworming. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 12 days old | 5 lbs

My puppy is 6 weeks and i just switched him from soft food to hard food and he wont eat but he's still very playful. He has worms and was dewormed two days ago and I think he pooped them out. Does he just not like the food or is something else going on?

It's probably just the transition from soft to dry. Keep feeding the soft food and offer the dry food as treats until he gets used to it. Sometimes it takes a while for them to learn to chew hard food. You can also try leaving a little dry in a dish when he's hungry and soaking a small amount of dry until it's mushy to see if he'll start eating it if is softer. As he grows he will want dry food, he's still young. He probably did pass out the worms but will need another deworming in two to three weeks.
