Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 9.5 lbs
I am looking for a non-surgical way to treat sialolithiasis. I have a 14 year old female miniature dachshund with Cushing's disease. Symptoms: eye swelling, excessive tearing, irritation. Location of stone is salivary duct (not gland) under left eye. Surgical removal of gland/duct not optimal due to age and disease. Surgical removal of stone from duct not advisable due to risk of ductal fibrosis. Can the stone be dissolved somehow?. There must be a non surgical treatment for this. Thank you.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) has been used with some success. This procedure involves using sound waves to dissolve or break up the stone. Surgery, however, is the treatment of choice in these cases. Frequently, removal of the entire affected gland is necessary to prevent post operative complications.
